BRETT ANDERSON/BRETT ANDERSON
21 March 2007 by wakako

the early years

MISSION CONTROL - DUB SHOWCASE
2 March 2007 by wakako

MISSION CONTROL

Mission Control is vocalist Xan Tyler and a “riddim group” comprised of celebrated drum’n'bass duo Mafia & Fluxy; bassist Baby Dread; guitarists Carlton Brooding and Black Steel; horn and brass players Dave Fulwood, Eddie, and Richard Doswell (of Dillinger’s Crispy Horns Section, who also contributed flute); and two London-based DJs: Denis Nolan and McKinky.

In 2001, this mad stylee group of lovers rock reggae performers, maverick dub musicians/producers coalesced to record the Dub Showcase album for Poptones’ In Dub imprint. This album — produced and mixed by reggae/dub legend Mad Professor (born Neil Fraser) and featuring a guest vocal appearance by Lee “Scratch” Perry (on “The Last Trumpet”) — was recorded at Mad Professor’s South London-based Ariwa Studios. The short-lived reggae subsidiary In Dub was run by Poptones honcho Alan McGee’s wife Kate Holmes(who also contributes flute for Mission Control). She had previously been one half of the synth pop duo Technique with Tyler.
